FLORES FLORES

Flores Flores is an ornamental piece inspired by the popular objects, material and graphic expressions that permeate the streets and Mexican flower shops. Common materials (such as concrete) and manufacturing solutions converge in this vase that speaks of everyday life and Mexican wit.

The creative process began with visits to the most popular flower shops and markets in Monterrey, documenting the materials, shapes, and graphic representations of the establishments with photographs. We identified concrete and its repetitive use in objects manufactured by merchants, such as parking spacers, for example. Likewise, the signs, labels, and colors stand out on the facades of the businesses and on the cards with information. We used both elements to materialize them in a design piece: a vase that represents the vernacular objects of Mexican flower shops.

Each piece was intervened by a signmaker, and each one, with their technique, painted the word "FLORES" on one of the faces of the vase; therefore that each object is a unique and unrepeatable work. The colors allude to the phosphorescent colors found in flower shops, which convey the same vibrant and striking identity of the markets.

The Galería Mexicana de Diseño created Colleción Miscelánea in 2019 with the participation of several creatives from the country and our Studio. This line of products, which includes Flores Flores, is made up of accessible and ingenious objects that celebrate diversity and reimagine Mexican everyday life. The collection was curated by Carmen Cordera, Cecilia León de la Barra, and Luis Vega, as part of the Abierto Mexicano de Diseño whose theme in that edition revolved around popular design.
