Tangente is a group of projects by Jorge Diego Etienne united by an exploration of different lines of thought in the studio’s work through forms, materials and discourses. Each project touches the objectives of working beyond design derived from collaborations with clients from Mexico, USA & Canada. Furniture, lamps and accessories comprise Tangente, in which technology, business and cultural significance are intersected to create designs that are both coherent and forward thinking.

(L) LAMP .004

Lamp .004 is part of Decimal, a project that questions the vast capabilities of 3D printing and its relationship with the process of conceptualization regarding to lighting design. 004 has an organic and sensual silhouette, whose surface presents subtle openness. This lamp is an exploration of composition and structural behavior. Its design allows the projection of light in a horizontal direction, with light and shadow games emerging though all the perimeter. Decimal is based in Canada and works with the combination of two leading technologies, LED lighting and 3D printing.

(T) CANDELA TABLES

Candela Tables are a homage to a pioneer architect who pushed the boundaries of concrete during the 1950’s in Mexico, Felix Candela. This concept uses Glass Reinforced Concrete, GFRC, to create an otherwise impossible design in concrete. This set of coffee and side tables has a strong bond with Mexican modernism by reinterpreting it to a contemporary furniture design. They are produced by Concreteworks in Alameda, California, USA, a pioneering fabrication studio specializing in innovative solutions using cast concrete and other cement-based materials.

(B) NIDO BOWLS

Nido Bowls are a set of ceramic containers that nest together. When stacked, they create a soft vertical composition that breaks to create 3 different size multipurpose containers. They are produced by Merkki, a design, creativity and experimentation platform where a dialogue between traditional crafts and design exists. It is a project by Cerámica Suro, a reference in ceramic art and design in Mexico with more than 60 years of expertise in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico.
